Commencement Information

Commencement is the formal celebration of the degree you have earned. It is a time for you to receive well-deserved recognition for your hard work and to celebrate your accomplishments at TMCC. Please RSVP today to let us know that you will be attending the Commencement Ceremony. The deadline to RSVP is April 26.

Participation in the Commencement Ceremony is optional and does not indicate that you have met the requirements to receive your degree.

A review and determination of your graduation status will be made after final grades are posted. Diplomas are not distributed at the ceremony. They will be mailed to the mailing address in your MyTMCC Student Center.

Date and Location

Graduates from the class of 2024 (Fall 2023, Spring and Summer 2024 semesters) are invited to participate in the May 2024 Commencement Ceremony.

TMCC will hold its commencement ceremony on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Lawlor Events Center, 1664 N. Virginia Street in Reno, NV 89557. Graduates will enter at the south main entrance (which is located at the corner of 15th Street and Virginia Street) and proceed to the Silver and Blue room. Doors will open at 3 p.m. You should arrive dressed in your cap and gown and proceed to the check-in tables to pick up your name card. Students will begin lining up at approximately 4 p.m. The procession will begin promptly at 4:30 p.m.

Contact Information

Keep your email address and contact information current with TMCC so that we can continue to update you. If you have any corrections to the spelling of your name, please email us and include your name, TMCC student ID number and updated information, so that we can keep your record current. If you have a name change due to marriage / divorce / adding a second family name, etc., you must complete the Request to Change Personal Identification Data form and submit it with the necessary documents to the Admission and Records Office. If you have a change of address and/or a change to your contact information, please update that in MyTMCC.

Please check your TMCC email regularly for updated Commencement information, including the Lawlor Event Center's Clear Bag Policy, No Outside Food or Beverage Policy (including water bottles) and No Balloons Policy, etc.

Commencement Program

If you would like your name included in the official Commencement program, you must apply for graduation or have an “Eligible to Graduate” status (your record was picked by the AutoGrad process) added to your record by the April 1 deadline. (Note: if the first of the month falls on a weekend, the deadline will be the following Monday.)

If you have a "Do Not Release FERPA Directory Information" hold on your account, your information will not be released for the commencement program. You must update this designation in your MyTMCC before April 1 to have your information included in the program.

Note: A limited number of printed Commencement Programs will be available (1 per graduate). A QR code with access to the electronic commencement program will be made available throughout the venue for family and guests to access before the ceremony begins.

Summer Graduates: The Summer graduation application deadline is June 1; however, if you are a Summer 2024 graduate and want your information included in the Commencement program, you must submit the online graduation application by the April 1 deadline. The Summer term option on the online graduation application will be available by the end of February.

TMCC Commencement

Graduation with Honors

Students are eligible to graduate from Truckee Meadows Community College with honors based on the completion of their required academic units for Certificates of Achievement, Associate or Bachelor’s degrees. Candidates will be notified by email if they are to receive this distinction at the Commencement Ceremony. Due to the timing of the Commencement Ceremony (before Spring grades are finalized and posted), the GPA at your most recent completed semester will determine your Honors status at the ceremony.

The Commencement Program honors designation will be based on your TMCC cumulative grade point average. Official honors will be posted on student transcripts with the certificate/degree designations based on grades including the student's final semester.

Grade point average determines the honors designation:

  • 3.60–3.74 = Cum Laude
  • 3.75–3.89 = Magna Cum Laude
  • 3.90–4.00 = Summa Cum Laude

Units and grades transferred from other institutions or other credit sources will not be used toward calculating grade point average for Honors designation.

Honors candidates may wear gold cords and tassels during the ceremony, and will be noted in the Commencement Program. Eligible students must pick up their gold cords and tassels the day of the Commencement Ceremony at the honors table.

Note: Candidates who have applied for graduation for the Summer sessions are not eligible for this distinction at the Commencement Ceremony. Your Honors designation will be noted on your transcript and on your diploma.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)

Graduates must be members of this International Honor Society to receive this designation at commencement. Members must purchase their gold stole, cord and/or tassel directly from Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. When ordering, please allow five to six weeks for delivery; priority shipping is available for an additional charge. To place an order by phone, please call 800-946-9996. Academic Attire and Announcements

Cap, gown, and tassel can be purchased in TMCC's Lizard Book Nook bookstore on the Dandini Campus. Prices are subject to change. For more information, please call the bookstore at 775-673-0236.

1) The bookstore will have academic attire in stock 4-6 weeks before commencement.
2) Regalia may be ordered online from Herff Jones. There will be a $13.95 shipping and handling fee and orders must be submitted by April 19 to ensure you receive your regalia by commencement.

Students and Participants with Disabilities

Students with disabilities are able to receive free accommodations, which enable equal access to the ceremony. If you are in need of special assistance, please contact the Disability Resource Center two weeks prior to the event. On the day of the event, there will be designated staff who will be available for your immediate assistance.
